Tacloban City Accommodations

From the McArthur Landing Memorial Park, I rode a trysikad going back to the highway in Campetic Crossing. I paid 10php for the trysikad. At the crossing, I hailed a jeepney with ‘downtown’ signboard, told the driver to drop me off at Robinsons Mall and paid 8php. I planned to drop by the mall to look for a refrigerator magnet souvenir, and maybe have some coffee. I just needed my dose of black coffee at that time.

The Boy Scout Monument and MacArthur Landing Memorial Park

From the town proper of Palo, Leyte, I rode a jeepney bound for Tacloban City and told the driver to drop me off at Campitic Crossing. The fare is 8php. Once there at the crossing, tricycles and traysikads tried to made offers of a ride going to the MacArthur Landing Site which was around 2 kilometers away. Anyway, since I was fond of walking and was planning to make a stop at the Boy Scout Monument along the way, I decided to walk. Yup, under the heat of the sun at around 1:00PM.

The walk was not that bad though as there were some trees on the side for some parts of the road. Along the way, one could see the various government offices (DepEd, DPWH, COA, etc.) of the province of Leyte as this area is also considered their government complex. After about a kilometer walk, I reached the Boy Scout Monument, the very first boy scout monument ever erected in the world in human form.

A Visit to the Historical and Religious Town of Palo, Leyte

Now, you might be asking why I decided to visit the town of Palo. Well, the first reason was to visit and have a picture of the UP Oblation in the UP School of Health Sciences, an extension school of UP Manila. I have this goal to collect pictures of myself with the UP Oble of all UP Units. Secondly, my visit was my act to pay tribute to the Filipino and American soldiers who fought gallantly during WWII. For those who didn’t know, it was in the town of Palo, in Brgy. Candahug specifically, where MacArthur first landed with a goal to liberate the Philippines.

My First Solo Trip: Leyte and Samar Islands (With Itinerary)

Last March of 2012, I was able to avail again another promo from the budget airline Cebu Pacific. I had no specific destination in mind as I checked on their website whether there were nice destinations on promotion during some Philippine long weekend holidays. With luck, I found a two-way promo fare for Tacloban City, Leyte on the dates August 26-28. August 27 is a holiday (National Heroes Day), and the flight on August 28 would be early in the morning which would allow me to still come to the office for work and not be absent. So then I grabbed it!
